Garden Is Growing, and We Need a Place to Work

The big vegetable garden is growing by leaps and bounds everyday.  We've added quite a lot more seeds and plants, and are in the process of adding a couple of fruit trees, but we needed a place to work.  So create one we did!

With a bunch of left over wood from the building of the chicken coup, we were able to make this custom work bench at no cost!!

First we started out with the frame which is 4x4's for the legs and 2x4's around the outside cut to the size and height we wanted our planting table to be.

I had two perfect helpers to get it put together with exterior screws.

Everybody loves to use power tools!

We used a combination of 2x8's, 2x6's, and 2x4's to create the top and cut them to fit.

Don't forget the safety gear; ear plugs, safety glass, and gloves are a must.

For the bottom shelf we used a couple of small pieces of plywood to fit.  We didn't have enough of the wood from the top work surface to complete the bottom shelf so we improvised.

Because of our use of materials, the lower shelf had to be painted with exterior paint instead of the stain we used on the rest of the piece.

We added an old screen we had laying around to finish out the back and give it the look we wanted, and now we can hang small tools back there as well.

Best helpers ever, and now we have a perfect work surface space as we continue to add to the big veggie garden.

Hope you enjoy the new template and layout of the blog.  Let me know what you all think!

  1. I love how you used varying widths of wood and I actually think painting the bottom piece of plywood gave it a chic look!!
