Gardening Heaven

Just finished weeding one of my flower gardens, and couldn't resist sharing my little piece of heaven!

We have the little fenced in area, not to keep out the deer, but at once we had a dog, and with no fence around the property this was one way to keep our dog in when we weren't playing with him in the yard.  It had some pea gravel in it, and that got removed when I started creating this special space.

Salvia, penstemon, iris, and white daisies dominate this flowery landscape.  These are just a few of the flowering plants that the deer won't eat, and therefore I have them everywhere in every garden.

Just a little corner of my gardening world.

Pool Pad

Remember the finally project complete post?  At the end I added a picture of where the new pool pad was going.  Well guess what?!?  I finished it, again we sense a finishing project theme again! :)  My kids were away at camp last week, so I took the opportunity to get this project going.  With 4 days of labor intensive work, the new pool pad looks fabulous, and ready for the new bigger pool.

Here is the before picture with the tramp in our little rock garden, and the circular retaining wall bricks to make the pool level.

So day one came on Saturday with the kids and my hubby helping move a lot of those rocks to make way for a rectangular pool.  This is day two with almost all the retaining wall bricks in place, we just needed to move the trampoline.

With the tramp officially moved, day three got under way with the finish of the bricks around the outside of the pool space.  I still had a lot rock to move yet, but you can see it coming together!

Day four started out with moving more rocks, and spreading out all the pea gravel.  By mid-morning the sand had arrived, and the spreading began again.

Sand dumping time.

And we have a beautiful pool pad, plus a little sand left over, might even make a sandbox!
With a little yoga thrown in every morning, I can still move. I like checking things off the list!
Cheers to another project in the books!

Inspiration Books

It's the last day of school today, and I find myself having just a little bit of time on my hands for the last time in at least two months.  Have you ever loved looking through magazines, and find something that sparks an idea for a project or a recipe that you would love to make.  However you don't want to keep the whole magazine, and the odds of you finding that particular recipe again or forgetting it all together are very high!  I create "scrapbooks" for lack of a better word, and then I get to look through them, and get inspired any time I want.  I have at least three for just recipes divided into lighter foods, heavy winter cooking, and the drinks, breads, and desserts.  I have one for gardening, which just recently spilled into another book, one for gift ideas, and another for Halloween and Christmas ideas.  I even have them for fitness routines and sewing ideas.  Today was my day to add to the inspiration scrapbooks.  I have had a pile of magazine pages ripped out and ready for me to put them into their respective books.

Needless to say I spread out a little, this is fun to do in my craft room.  I can set up, and if I don't finish, no picking up right away required.
The well loved ones in blue with circles and squares are my recipes, and it's fun to have new recipes to try.  I can get bored with making the same thing again and again, and this give me a chance to try new ingredients and flavors.

Just a page or two...
Can't wait to try this recipe!

Hope you get inspired!

Finally project complete

It's been a crazy and fast spring season this year, like it is every year, but for some reason I had a multitude of things to do this spring.  I finally finished one, yes just one, of my flower beds.  I have a couple of retaining walls in my backyard that give me the opportunity to have a flat fun backyard, and I have always had a few plants in there, but mostly the weeds took over because I never finished it.  This year (drum roll please) I have finished it.  Sensing a theme?  Yes, finished!!

View from the deck, yet to be finished, and the stairs that lead out of my backyard yet to be finished, but working on it!!  And the little square space is for the outdoor fireplace. Still need to come up with a design, I don't have a vision just yet, but send me pics if you have some good ideas.

I still finally have something to celebrate.  Beautiful red daylilies, white daisies, and purple penstemons.
I have dark purple bearded iris, plus ornamental grass.

But my favorite has to be the wine and roses.
Gorgeous deep red foliage with pretty pink flowers in the spring.  I did splurge a little and purchase these beauties!

The project became less expensive, because I divided the flowers in my existing gardens, and added them to this wall space, plus the rock came from a neighbor and my own stash seen here.  The retaining wall blocks off to the left are where our above ground pool sits in the summer, but guess what...another project on the horizon is to expand the space for a bigger pool.  I know, I'm crazy, you might think I like dirt work, but alas I don't!  Tramp will be moved, along with much of this rock, and a new pool will be in it's place hopefully by the end of next week.  Stay tuned to see how it's going, or if I can still move my body!
