Upgraded Outdoor Lighting

We are getting the exterior of our house painted this week!  Eek I can't tell you how excited I am to get this done, it's been just a little too long and now very necessary.  We needed to do a few little fixes on the exterior this weekend to get ready for paint, and one of those items was new front lighting.  Our old fixtures were too small and didn't stand out, so we replaced the old fixtures, but we couldn't just get rid of those lights, we did a little upgrade and added them to the back deck.

See how in the before picture the lights just blended in too well with the brick, and they were too small to make a statement on the front of the house, but they would make a perfect upgrade to the back of the house, however a makeover was in order.

We got them off the house, and found a very unpleasant surprise.  The hornets and spiders had moved in and found the perfect homes right behind the fixtures. Yuck!

We took them apart so all of the individual components could be cleaned and prepped for paint.

Up next sanding is a must using some 220 grit sandpaper, your new paint will adhere much better with longer lasting results.

You can tell just a slight difference with the sanded one on the left, blow off the dust with an air compressor and your ready for paint.

Don't forget the little screw covers!

Once the paint has dried, we start putting the fixture back together for installation.

The back of the house just got an inexpensive upgrade in lighting with nothing more than some spray paint and our time.

Here's our before (left) and after (right) photos of the new front porch lights, and now we wait for the paint.
