My little nephew is turning two in a week, and I wanted to make him a little something for his birthday, as well as adding some books to the gift. What goes more perfect with books than some building blocks to play with! So what did we do? That's right we made them!!
They turned out so cute. Here's how we did it.
Went to the local hardware store in search of the perfect sized block, and we stumbled across this stair spindle that works for the size blocks we wanted to create.
After cutting them into perfect squares and sanding all the edges we ended up with 18 blocks that are now ready for decorations.
We wanted to make one or two sides that would be a puzzle so we rubber-banded them together to hold them in place
while we went to our silhouette to make the shapes we wanted.
Cutting out the shapes in contact paper, we can then stick the stencil directly to the wood blocks.
Perfect!
Now we add letters, numbers, and some cute pictures to the other sides of the blocks
Finally we need to seal them
with a sealer that was food grade safe and this butcher block sealer did just the trick.
Officially sealed and ready for play time. Now to add a few good books, and this birthday gift is ready for my nephew to play with.
