We are busy getting ready for Thanksgiving making chicken stock and giving our sour dough starter time to sour, but managed this week to create a little upgrade for our faux fireplace in the basement.
Long story short we were gifted this gorgeous barnwood door from my mother-in-law. She intended for it to be a headboard in her new house, but she changed her mind and gratefully we got it and wondered what we could do with it, and this old salvaged mantel we've had for a long time needed just the upgrade.
Front and back shots, how cool that they are both so different. We chose the white wash front because of it's color and the back had all the wood necessary to hang it with little or no alteration.
Off to hang it. We used a scrap piece of 1x6 leveled and drill into the studs, then simply hang our door on that
and we rummaged through some old screws to find the rustiest ones, and screwed our door to the cleat to secure it.
Next up we add some interest with a candelabra
Here's the hardware that needed to be removed to allow this door to hang on the wall, now what should we do with it??
Here she is all lit up and decorated. Now to finish behind the mantel!! Do we need to distress this mantel or leave it as is? Please let us know in the comments!
