On one of our salvage trips we were lucky enough to find an old dresser. One of those deals you couldn't pass up even though we didn't know how or where we were going to use it. It sat in the barn for six months at least when a friend of mind was looking for just such a piece, and asked if we could redo it with custom colors to match her space.
Here she was in the original condition we bought her; the white was a little beat up and not finished very well, she was looking for some love.
It was decided that an ombre look on the drawer fronts was going to provide the best look in the space. Ombre colors go from darker to lighter as you go up or visa versa, apparently this is popular in hair color, look at what we learned!
Here's the colors that she chose and the entire dresser color is a gray called roulette which accents a comforter she has in her space.
Color's all added, now for the white and distressing.
We used an ultra white, and beat the color into the brush so it wouldn't have too much on paint brush at a time. She wanted to colors to really shine and not be outdone by the white.
Once the white is on and dried, then we take some 220 grit sandpaper and tone down the white even more while also roughing up those edges and corners to get the original wood to come through.
Here's a shot of the difference that the sandpaper makes on the final look.
All we need now is to find some hardware and this dresser is finished. Have a piece you'd like made over, let us know, we'd love to help!
