I'm embarrassed to say how long it's taken to put this half bath project together, I was blogging about it in 2015. All the components were there from salvaged items to fabric for the valence over the window, it was just that last little piece of the puzzle that we couldn't seem to get finished. Well I'm excited to announce that it's done, our builder boring half bath is now a totally customized and unique space that fits our house perfectly.

Don't Throw Out the Leftovers!
Friday, April 14, 2017
We all have some leftover scrap from finished projects, so this particular project takes using your leftovers to a whole new meaning. Remember these doors? They became library shelves and storage in our work studio, but I still had the bottom half of the dirty door from the library shelves. By adding a leftover drawer front I had laying around from an old dresser I refinished, what did I get?
Always Thinking of Paris
Thursday, January 19, 2017
My daughter and I have small love affair with Paris, okay it's more like an obsession really. So to remind us of said love affair, we decided to decorate her room Paris themed. We started out with rehabbing an old night stand.

Barnwood Door Turned Mantel Upgrade
Thursday, November 17, 2016
We are busy getting ready for Thanksgiving making chicken stock and giving our sour dough starter time to sour, but managed this week to create a little upgrade for our faux fireplace in the basement.
Custom Salvaged Dresser Request Complete
Thursday, November 10, 2016
On one of our salvage trips we were lucky enough to find an old dresser. One of those deals you couldn't pass up even though we didn't know how or where we were going to use it. It sat in the barn for six months at least when a friend of mind was looking for just such a piece, and asked if we could redo it with custom colors to match her space.

Repurposed Mirror to Wall Artwork
Thursday, November 3, 2016
We are officially nearing my very favorite holiday, Thanksgiving! It's a foodie's dream day right? Well as we move into focusing on the dining room and kitchen in preparation for Thanksgiving, we needed some artwork on the wall in our dining room to spruce it up a bit, and we had just the piece.
Upcycled Old Sewing Table
Monday, October 31, 2016
Better Homes and Gardens magazine is amongst one of my favorite magazines to get. I discovered in the latest couple of issues people who have recycled old furniture and turned it into something fabulous! We got the buzz here too, and had the perfect piece to turn around for this upcycling challenge!
Upgraded Outdoor Lighting
Monday, September 12, 2016
We are getting the exterior of our house painted this week! Eek I can't tell you how excited I am to get this done, it's been just a little too long and now very necessary. We needed to do a few little fixes on the exterior this weekend to get ready for paint, and one of those items was new front lighting. Our old fixtures were too small and didn't stand out, so we replaced the old fixtures, but we couldn't just get rid of those lights, we did a little upgrade and added them to the back deck.
From Broken Chair to Towel Bar?
Thursday, July 21, 2016
We've been working on updating our builder half bath for sometime now, and I know what you're thinking, that's probably the smallest, easiest, most cost effective room to update right? Well, it's taken me some time, and I do keep changing my mind on what exactly is going in there, so maybe there is some excuse. For this addition we took an old broken chair, and turned it into a unique and creative towel bar.

Easy Laundry Decor on a Dime
Thursday, July 14, 2016
Feels good to get back into the swing of salvaging, creating, and decorating, after almost a month off we are ready to get back to it. The laundry room was in much need of some decorating, and like most of us we are on a budget.

Here's how the whole room turned out, and we totally changed the look and feel of this room with some very simple to create items. I might actually want to do laundry now?!? Maybe!

From a Door to Library Shelves
Thursday, April 14, 2016
We did a little treasure hunting a week or so ago, and came across a couple of great doors at our local Habitat for Humanity ReStore. Sent it out for your opinion on our Facebook Page, and got a lot of great ideas, thank you!! I thought you might like to see what we turned one door into.
I was in need of some added shelves for my library, but wasn't ready to build the custom shelves I want to add someday. Now we have a few more shelves to use for our ever growing collection of books.
Fun lighting project
Tuesday, May 21, 2013
I love projects, big ones, little ones, it doesn't matter. I recently came across an old brass light fixture courtesy of my late father-in-law, much like me he could see the potential in anything. My husband and I along with several family members were helping my mother-in-law clean up the barn space at their house, and I came across this light fixture. My poor husband took one look at our newly acquired piece, and turned up his nose. "One more thing we have to bring home, and this thing is ugly." I however disagreed!!

A few weekends later, just to let my husband stew over how this was going to turn out, I finally got started. First thing I did was wash it with soap and water, and took off the glass hardware so I could put it in the dishwasher for a good cleaning. I used a piece of sandpaper, 220 grit, to rough up the surface to prepare it to take the spray paint I was going to use. I went to my local home improvement store and purchased satin finish black spray paint, 5 light bulbs, and 5 small lamp shades, $38 later I was ready to get started painting. I did get schooled from hubby about how to correctly apply spray paint, so for those, like myself, who need a little direction...hold the spray can about 8-10 inches away from what you want to spray, and use short, quick sprays until you get the coverage that you desire. This may take several coats to get the desired coverage.
After letting it dry for several hours and after the glass was cleaned in the dishwasher, I started putting it back together with beautiful results! The lampshades and clean glass against the new black metal looked stunning!

Final step was the hanging, not being familiar with the ins and outs of electricity, I called in my hubby for help, who seeing the finished product was now excited to help me hang this! I turned off the breaker to my daughter's room, and got ready to take the old fixture down. It was far easier than I had expected, a few screws undone, and wire nuts connecting the new wires we were set. The finished product is fabulous.

My daughter's room looks wonderful with this new light fixture in place along with the wrought iron bed frame and old make-up dresser from Grandpa as well (although a project not yet finished). Her room looks perfect for a little girl ready to grow up way too fast with a few great memories of Grandpa!! We miss you, but see you all around us!
