Creating Decorations Using Some of Our Favorite Music

We are quickly closing in on Christmas!  With less than two weeks left we are feverishly getting our presents bought and wrapped and enjoying the benefits of the season by getting together with friends and family.  We are still doing a few additions to the Christmas decorations, but this one's a little different.

0

Making a Few Custom Designed Ornaments

When we finally finished our basement I knew that I wanted a Christmas tree down there.  We have the one on the main floor that we cut down and decorate as a family with all the sentimental ornaments, but the basement one could be whatever I wanted it to be, and seen as how copper is turning into one of my favorite colors, copper and blue it was.

Adding A Few More Simple to Create Christmas Decorations

In need of a few more simple and inexpensive decorations for Christmas?  Well look no further, we've got some to add the finishing touches to your Christmas decor.

It's Not Too Late to Make an Advent Calendar, Promise

There have been a lot of cool how-to's on advent calendars and wreaths we've been seeing, so we got inspired to make our own homemade calendar that fits our decor just right.

Perfect next to the tree with all the kids' handmade ornaments.  Come on an see how we did it!

Easy Christmas Decorations that Spruce Up the Porch

Well the Christmas tree is up and decorated, and the inside of the house is all decked out for the season, but our front porch needed a spruce up for the holidays.  We created these trees out of inexpensive garland and old tomato cages.  Come see how easy these are to make!

Keeping the Christmas Tree Cutting Tradition

We hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and a peaceful long weekend, we sure did here.  Thanksgiving was just perfect at our house, but with the passing of Thanksgiving comes the all out blitz to decorate for Christmas.  While we are not quite finished with all the final touches just yet, we are well on our way to making our house a winter wonderland.  Along with all the Christmas decorating, we also go out as a family to cut down a Christmas tree out of the National Forest with a permit of coarse!!

Few Last Minute Decorations for Thanksgiving

We are making the final push in our preparation for Thanksgiving, and we are pumped.  We have put a couple of finishing touches on our kitchen decor to make this thanksgiving perfect.  First up a little upgrade on our harvest box.  It has worked perfectly to help organize all the fruits and veggies that come through the kitchen, but it needed a little pizzazz!

Barnwood Door Turned Mantel Upgrade

We are busy getting ready for Thanksgiving making chicken stock and giving our sour dough starter time to sour, but managed this week to create a little upgrade for our faux fireplace in the basement.

Custom Salvaged Dresser Request Complete

On one of our salvage trips we were lucky enough to find an old dresser.  One of those deals you couldn't pass up even though we didn't know how or where we were going to use it.  It sat in the barn for six months at least when a friend of mind was looking for just such a piece, and asked if we could redo it with custom colors to match her space.

My Nephew's Birthday is Coming, But What to Make Him?

My little nephew is turning two in a week, and I wanted to make him a little something for his birthday, as well as adding some books to the gift.  What goes more perfect with books than some building blocks to play with!  So what did we do?  That's right we made them!!

Repurposed Mirror to Wall Artwork

We are officially nearing my very favorite holiday, Thanksgiving!  It's a foodie's dream day right?  Well as we move into focusing on the dining room and kitchen in preparation for Thanksgiving, we needed some artwork on the wall in our dining room to spruce it up a bit, and we had just the piece.

Upcycled Old Sewing Table

Better Homes and Gardens magazine is amongst one of my favorite magazines to get.  I discovered in the latest couple of issues people who have recycled old furniture and turned it into something fabulous!  We got the buzz here too, and had the perfect piece to turn around for this upcycling challenge!

Have Map, Will Mark Where Traveled

On our Facebook Page earlier this week we shared an HGTV video about creating a travel map, well that got us inspired to finally put together our own travel map in the library, and we love it.

Quick and Easy Last Minute Halloween Decorations

Halloween is almost here!!  We tend to go all out for Halloween, but thought we needed a few more decorations this year, so at the last minute we created a few.

Florida Room Inspiration

As we start to move indoors for the winter in Colorado, we were inspired by the idea of a Florida room from Douglas Elliman Real Estate.  We wanted to create a few beach inspired decor ideas that in the dead of winter you could enjoy the next closest thing to sun and surf!  Come check us out on Pinterest, and view some of our ideas for the coziest Florida room ever.

Work Studio Complete

We have finally done it.  The work studio is complete.  We added a few more finishing touches this week, and it's finally time for a walk-through.

0

It's the Last but Not Least Organizing Element

We've almost done it, the last piece of the puzzle to finish up for our work studio so we are totally organized and have enough storage for all things crafty.  Just a few small touches to finish up before we give you the grand tour, but first let's see what we did this week!

That's a Gardening Wrap, Almost

The growing season is almost over.  Can't believe how fast this summer went.  As we clean up and harvest the last of the summer's bounty, we thought we'd show you how we are wrapping up in the garden.

Storage Galore for Our Organizational Needs

Last week we started a serious upgrade of our organization in the artisan/work studio.  This week we continue all things organizing by adding much needed storage to this space, while we have created different shelving units using salvaged 2 x 12's or 2 x 6's on a couple of occasions here on the blog, these particular storage units combined both designs.

0

Artisan Studio Organization

We are desperately seeking some organization!  No seriously there is stuff laying around everywhere in the craft studio.  While I suppose this means the creative juices are flowing, the overwhelmed feeling by the amount of little items that are scattered all over the place is really getting to us.  We need to create a system for harmony, so over the next couple of blog posts we are creating much needed organization for our craft/artisan studio.  We started this week with trying to keep all of the little things in order, but we must first go on a hunt around the house to see what we have laying around that we can salvage because let be honest all of the organizing tools you can buy at the store really add up fast.  I'd rather spend my money on crafty items not organization tools.

3

Upgraded Outdoor Lighting

We are getting the exterior of our house painted this week!  Eek I can't tell you how excited I am to get this done, it's been just a little too long and now very necessary.  We needed to do a few little fixes on the exterior this weekend to get ready for paint, and one of those items was new front lighting.  Our old fixtures were too small and didn't stand out, so we replaced the old fixtures, but we couldn't just get rid of those lights, we did a little upgrade and added them to the back deck.

Front Porch Fall Design to Enjoy the Last of the Warm Evenings!

We were recently inspired by Arhaus to showcase a design of our outdoor space, so we did just that, and transformed our front porch into a relaxing end of the day place to enjoy.

Hello Fall

It's officially time to decorate for fall, with temps getting cooler outside and the kids back in school, we are prepping our house for all things fall.  We've definitely accumulated a lot of fall decorations over the years, however we had added some cool new and easy decorations that you can do quick and for next to nothing.

Harvest Storage Help!

We've been harvesting and harvesting from our long awaited dream vegetable garden.  It's been a stellar year for sure with an excellent harvest thus far.  The one thing I didn't think of was how am I going to store all of this excellent produce.  We have been freezing and canning, but some of it you just have to give away or eat yourself now!  We needed a storage system for the counter to keep us neat and organized so we made one that fit our space perfectly.

Old Windows Done Seven Different Ways

I start by saying I love old windows, there has never been one that I can think of that I didn't like. With glass, without glass, broken glass it doesn't matter, I love old windows.  I pick them up where and when I can on my treasure hunts.  Here are a few ways that I have used old windows in some of my projects.

No Trespassing by order of the Boy!

A long, and I do mean a long time ago, we started working on my sons new move to the basement with a cool new paint job for his room.  We of coarse still have more to add to finish up his room, but this new sign we made from a old salvaged box spring mattress is perfect.

Continued Sustainable Garden Update

A couple of weeks ago we gave you a peak into the life of our brand new 2500 square foot vegetable garden, we couldn't pack everything into that one post so here we are on continuation.

Discover Your Home Goes to Discover the Outdoors

With just weeks before we start the back to school routine, we realized we hadn't even gone camping yet.  We managed to jet around the globe this summer, but had yet to discover our own backyard.  Our family is fond of finding a place in a wilderness area, pulling off the road, and setting up camp.  Found the perfect new place to set up our camp right near the summit of Vail Pass.

Old Finds Create a Vintage Fireplace Mantel Design

I love my fireplace and then subsequently my fireplace mantel, however I have had the toughest time trying to figure out how to decorate it's huge space.  Well I took a look around my house and found some perfect items that fill up this mantel .

From Broken Chair to Towel Bar?

We've been working on updating our builder half bath for sometime now, and I know what you're thinking, that's probably the smallest, easiest, most cost effective room to update right?  Well, it's taken me some time, and I do keep changing my mind on what exactly is going in there, so maybe there is some excuse.  For this addition we took an old broken chair, and turned it into a unique and creative towel bar.

Garden Update

Wanted to give you all a little update on the new veggie garden, how it's doing, and what we've collected so far.

Easy Laundry Decor on a Dime

Feels good to get back into the swing of salvaging, creating, and decorating, after almost a month off we are ready to get back to it.  The laundry room was in much need of some decorating, and like most of us we are on a budget.

Here's how the whole room turned out, and we totally changed the look and feel of this room with some very simple to create items. I might actually want to do laundry now?!?  Maybe!

Back from Vacation and Ready to Salvage and Create

What a month of June!  We left at the beginning of the month for Mexico, we were back for about a week, and then left for Florida.  We spent a few days enjoying the beach and more sunshine in Florida before heading back to Colorado on the road trip of a lifetime.  Thought I'd share some of our trip, and some of the goodies we picked up along the way.

Rustic Decor Update

Salvaged 2 x 12's Turned to Custom Shelving Unit

We are feverishly putting in all the plants and seedlings for our vegetable garden, so much work in fact that we have gotten a little behind on all of our other responsibilities, however we managed to make a much needed shelving unit for our music room this week all out of salvaged 2 x 12's.  We had no real organization for all of our piano music, most of the time it would just end up scattered on the floor and stepped on etc, definitely not the ideal situation, so we built and distressed our unit using old 2 x 12's to help us store and organize our music.

This custom built to order shelf unit was easy to construct, and the distressed painting technique we used was even easier.

Salvaging the Salvage Project

There are many different ways to get an image you desire onto wood, whether it be old pallet wood or brand new wood you just purchased from the hardware store, however the new way I tried this week needs some work to perfect, but I had to salvage my project.

These are my new addition to the tops of my kitchen cabinets, you know that one foot space above your cabinets that sometimes we don't know what to do with.  Here's the perfect addition to that space.

Garden Is Growing, and We Need a Place to Work

The big vegetable garden is growing by leaps and bounds everyday.  We've added quite a lot more seeds and plants, and are in the process of adding a couple of fruit trees, but we needed a place to work.  So create one we did!

With a bunch of left over wood from the building of the chicken coup, we were able to make this custom work bench at no cost!!

Rustic Decor Additions for Wyoming

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

If you have followed my blog for any time you know that our family has a place in windy Wyoming. It's been in the family for many years, and the Flying X Ranch holds a dear place in my heart.  We have had our place up there for about seven or eight years now, and quite frankly it needed some rustic decor to spruce up the place.  I've had these ideas for a year or two, but up until now I've not done anything about it.  We are ready to start heading back up there again this summer, and I thought it was time to add some decor to make it feel like a home away from home.

Here's how everything turned out!

Etched Glassware for a Perfect Port Party

Last summer a group of us girls went over the western slope of Colorado in Palisade where they are known for their wineries.  We went to vineyard after vineyard, toured wineries, and enjoyed of coarse some wine tasting.  After a fun filled weekend, we headed home with our wine and port, and promised ourselves we would get together for port party, and we finally did this past weekend.  I thought it would be fun for everyone to take home their own party favor which was an etched port wine glass.

Here's how they turned out!

Psst Mom, Don't Read Until Mother's Day

With Mother's Day coming up, I wanted to create a thoughtful and lasting gift for my mom to enjoy.
I thought of the best gift to give her this week, but first we must make it!!  My mom and I share the same love of books and gardening, so when this idea came to me I knew it was perfect.  I stumbled across this quote on Pinterest that embodied both the things we love.  So here's how this customized Mother's Day gift turned out!

We Just Need Some Home Decor There?!?

Have you ever stared at a space in your house, and thought this space needs something?  But what? I had just that space at the base of my stairs on the main level.  It needed something.  Well I finally did something about it, I built and installed a console table that was just exactly what this little space needed.

This table was super easy to create and even easier to install.

From a Door to Library Shelves

We did a little treasure hunting a week or so ago, and came across a couple of great doors at our local Habitat for Humanity ReStore.  Sent it out for your opinion on our Facebook Page, and got a lot of great ideas, thank you!!  I thought you might like to see what we turned one door into.

I was in need of some added shelves for my library, but wasn't ready to build the custom shelves I want to add someday.  Now we have a few more shelves to use for our ever growing collection of books.

First Planting

We have been working on the big dream garden for about 3 years now, and it's official we have our very first plantings!  I can't tell you how excited I am, it's finally all coming together.  Planted the garlic a week or so ago, and just this week we've added brussels sprouts, artichokes, broccoli, and cauliflower to the mix.  These guys like the colder weather so it's a great time to plant them.

Pallet Wood Designs

I have had some wood laying around the house for some time now with so many ideas for their use, but I just never got around to making anything with it.  My friends that is all changing thanks to a special request.  A friend of mine contacted me and asked if I would custom make her a family tree on a wood board, and she gave me creative leeway, so I got my crafty on to create a one of a kind family tree pallet wood board.
